Minimum wage increased statewide for hourly workers in New York today. 

According to the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, the hourly minimum wage in New York State for tipped workers increased from $5.65 to $7.50; for fast food workers in New York City, from $8.75 to $10.50; and for all other workers statewide, from $8.75 to $9.00.

Roughly half of working age adults living in food insecure households statewide are working, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture data analyzed by the group.

Joel Berg, the executive director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, says the state should immediately adopt a $15 per hour minimum wage for all workers, and index future wages to inflation.
