A 25-year-old woman was charged Saturday in the death of her baby who police say was left in a garbage bag outside a Bay Ridge home.
According to police, Laura Sergio went to the hospital Friday night with a medical problem. A doctor called authorities to say she might have given birth. Investigators said they found the baby girl unconscious on Saturday on the back porch of Sergio's parents' Colonial Road home.
A medical examiner ruled hypothermia and asphyxia caused the death.
Police say two of Sergio's sisters have also been charged in connection with the case. One faces a charge of improper disposal of a body, and the other is charged with obstructing governmental administration.
