Eight migrants were arrested on gun and drug charges last week after a search warrant discovered them squatting in the basement of a Norwood home.
Six of those eight migrants were released by a city judge without bail. Three of those six migrants, two men and one woman, returned to the basement only to be greeted by ICE agents.
ICE says that all eight migrants are citizens of Venezuela. They were arrested by the NYPD, which discovered guns and drugs including crack-cocaine and ketamine in the basement apartment.
The homeowner spoke to News 12 and has since boarded up the basement windows, which he says those migrants broke to gain access to that apartment. He says that he’s been working to get them out of there for several months as they had no lease and no key.
"Police told me this is a landlord-tenant court case… that day I went to the court and they told me serve them 10 days’ notice, so I served them 10 days’ notice and they don’t respond,” said the homeowner who has asked to remain anonymous. “They don’t care about it, and I don't have their names either, I don't know them, they are not my tenants, I've never seen them before."
The homeowner says that he has a housing court date for April 23. In the meantime, ICE agents have put a detainer on the four other migrants who are in NYPD custody, which means the NYPD would have to notify ICE prior to their release.
ICE says that the eighth migrant in this case remains at large at this time and that they are moving forward with possible deportation proceedings.
