A beloved Morris Heights supermarket is now boarded up and locked two days after a heavy fire completely gutted the building.

The fire did not just burn down the C-Town supermarket neighborhood staple -- it used to be the center of people's lives and now its damages are beyond repair.

Heavy smoke and fire took over Thursday evening as more than 200 firefighters battled the blaze.

Fire officials say it took the fire department more than four hours to get the flames under control.

The fire did not spread to the tire shop next door and there were no serious injuries.

Juan Marte, who has been the manager at C-Town for the last 34 years, said that his 30 or so employees are now all out jobs as they wait for the building to be demolished.

Residents said they have shopped at the C-Town for years and now they have no choice but to get their essentials elsewhere.

The Department of Buildings issued a full vacate order for the building.

Fire marshals continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
