To add to the nightmare caused by rain and flooding, commuters were met with a closed roadway Friday due to a wall collapse. New York Department of Transportation (DOT) officials say they were notified around 7:30 a.m. that a stone wall along the Mosholu Parkway had collapsed. Although the cause has not yet been determined, DOT workers say saturation from the rain may have been the culprit. DOT officials have determined the cement wall behind the collapsed stones is structurally sound and will remain standing. An official from DOT noted a similar incident took place in December of 2005 involving the same area of the wall. However, they say the wall had since been repaired. Although no injuries were reported, many commuters say the parkway closure was an annoying surprise.
