STORM WATCH: Warm, humid today; rounds of rain and strong storms to arrive through tonight for Brooklyn

Here’s what you need to know:
  • A HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK is in effect through this evening. Life-threatening rip currents are likely at the Brooklyn and Queens beaches today.
  • It's a mild, cloudy and calm start to the day. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to low 70s.
  • Today will be another warm and muggy day. A stray shower is possible during the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s.
  • Another storm system moves in tonight through Friday bringing rounds of steady rain, that can be heavy at times. There's an isolated risk for severe weather and localized flooding on Thursday. Strong to damaging winds, small hail, and lightning is possible. Thursday will be the wettest day this week. The timing is after 9PM tonight through 1 a.m. on Friday. 0.75-1.5 inches of rainfall possible tonight through early Friday morning. Stay tuned for updates!

TRACKING THE TROPICS: Hurricane Gabrielle continues to move east towards the Azores as it weakens over the next few days. There are two areas of interest in the Atlantic that have a high chance of developing in the next few days. These tropical waves currently pose no direct threat to land but will bring some heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Leeward and Windward islands later today. We'll continue to monitor these storms to see if they pose any threat to the US by next week.
