Mother of Bridgeport teen who died in scooter accident wants to promote rider safety

The mother of a Bridgeport teenager who was killed in scooter accident in June spoke for the first time Thursday about her loss.
AJ DeJesus, 17, was riding a scooter on June 15 when he was struck by a truck. He died four days later.
Nadine Huertas says she wants her son to be remembered as the inspiration for a public safety campaign focused on young people who ride motorized two-wheel vehicles.
"It's best to wear your helmet at all times whether it's down the street, it's at the corner store, you wear your helmet at all times," Huertas said.
DeJesus' family has created a GoFundMe to promote his legacy and rider safety.
