The mother of a man who police say was fatally stabbed by his roommates in their Norwood apartment last week is now remembering him for his love of live and cheerful energy.
Cynthia Adams says her son, 29-year-old Jonathan Hutcherson, was a vibrant, inquisitive, loving and positive guy. She adds that now she's holding on to her son's smile, laughter and his love for life.
"I want him to know that he is loved by his family, and he will not be forgotten," Adams says.
Adams says she knew something was wrong as she was tossing and turning Friday night in Virginia, where she lives.
Her mother's intuition was right, and now she has one question.
"I want to know why did you kill my son?" She asks.
Hutcherson was found dead March 4 around 3 a.m. when police responded to a 911 call at his apartment on Perry Avenue.
His roommates, 20-year-old Meanna Torigoe and 21-year-old John Delgado, were arrested.
Police say the pair sprayed Hutcherson with pepper spray, punched him with brass knuckles and stabbed him in the neck and torso.
"Whether they get life in prison or whatever, it's not going to bring my son back," Adams says.
She says she never met his roommates and never knew of any issues.
She now has a message for other parents.
"You need to know where your children are, what are their habits, who are they affiliating themselves with, their whereabouts," Adams says.
Police say the stabbing happened after a dispute over noise. Adams says detectives told her that her son asked his roommates to pipe down as they were having an argument and texted them. Then they went into Hutcherson's bedroom and killed him.
Both Delgado and Torigoe are charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
They are both being held in custody.
