A speech center in Bedford Park that was founded by a group of nuns is closing its doors.
Mount Saint Ursula Speech Center, which treats children with severe- to low-level speech delays, closed its doors Friday.
The center has been part of the Ursuline of the Eastern Province for close to 60 years, and it was founded by the sisterhood. The staff says that several months ago, they were told by the ministry that they had to make room for low-income senior housing.
The 11 employees who are out of a job say they are more concerned about the future of their young clients, some of whom did not speak before coming to the center.
The center's administrators say they will have to find another building for their speech center, which will be difficult because of the strict city health guidelines.
