A tentative deal was reached between the New York State Nurses Association and two more New York City hospitals- Maimonides and Richmond University Medical. This comes as News 12 learns Mount Sinai Hospital is preparing to cut services if an agreement with the union is not reached.
The tentative agreement will benefit more than 1,300 nurses. The New York State Nurses Association issued a joint statement with Maimonides saying in part, "We are pleased to reach a tentative agreement that recognizes the essential contributions of our indispensable nursing staff. We believe this agreement is fair and respects the needs of all parties while also helping us better serve our patients."
Meanwhile, Mount Sinai released an internal memo where the hospital says it has no choice but to proceed with the strike plan. It began to cancel elective surgeries and is starting to transfer patients, including NICU babies, outside the Mount Sinai health system.
In addition, it says it is being forced to divert ambulances away from Mount Sinai hospitals. It says it will continue to negotiate in good faith to reach a fair and responsible agreement.
Nurses have been calling for an increase in registered nurses, fair wages, fully funded health care and health and safety protections in light of the tripledemic of COVID-19, RSV and the flu.
