The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it will continue to step up safety and security measures at subway and bus stations after several incidents across the city. 

This also comes in light of an increase in felony assaults seen across the boroughs as well. 

The MTA had its first in-person board meeting on Wednesday since the coronavirus pandemic started. 

A major topic of discussion was finding ways to make transit riders safe. 

MTA Chief Safety Officer Patrick Warren said felony assaults are up 62.3% compared to last June. 

Warren says they will continue to ramp up security on the transit system. He says the NYPD has deployed an additional 1,100 officers. 

Security guards have also been added to more than 100 stations, as well as trains. Warren says the MTA Police Department has also added 31 officers and plans to add at least another hundred in the next few weeks. 

The MTA says over 1,000 cameras have been installed at 114 stations. They say the goal is to have cameras in every station by the end of the summer. 

News 12 reached out to the MTA and the NYPD to find out exactly how many officers have been deployed in the Bronx and Brooklyn and has not heard back yet.
