The MTA has announced budget cuts could force layoffs among subway maintenance workers, which could lead to unclean stations and trains.

MTA officials say a staff of almost 3,000 people usually cleans the subway system, but to save more than $37.7 million, about 360 jobs may be cut. According to the MTA, close to 100 of those job cuts will be managerial positions, but at least 80 positions will be among maintenance workers.

Residents say the subways are already filthy and can't stand to lose workers who keep them clean.
