New York City Transit is working with the city's Department of Transportation and the NYPD to make sure city buses are on time by enforcing bus lanes.

The MTA began enforcement with camera systems in Manhattan at the beginning of this month and so far, more than 5,000 warnings have been issued.

Officials say they have seen improved performances, which is why they are expanding the program.

Cameras have been added to the B44-SBS route that is also used by B44 and B49.

Some commuters who ride B44 to and from work every day say they are hopeful these cameras will make a difference.

There will be a 60-day grace period in which drivers are going to be issued warnings. After that, motorists who continue to block bus lanes will be subject to a $50 fine for the first violation and up to $250 for five or more offenses within a year.
