MTA, Food Bank for NYC team up to help New Yorkers with food insecurity

The MTA and Food Bank for New York City say they plan to work together to turn the food collection drive into an annual event to help New Yorkers.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has teamed with Food Bank for New York City to deliver boxes of food throughout the city this holiday season. 
For three weeks, MTA employees donated canned items, pasta and other nonperishables at 30 different locations throughout its system to fill a city bus to help feed families. 
This is the first year NYC Transit has partnered with Food Bank in this way to fight hunger. 
Rising food prices and COVID-19 continue to affect people’s daily lives. The impact particularly is being felt during the holiday season, with a number of families struggling with food insecurity. 
The Food Bank for NYC says the need has doubled since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, estimating that by the end of the year it will ship out more than $150 million pounds of food to the 800 agencies it serves throughout the city.
