The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has launched a new ad campaign to remind straphangers they should accommodate the disabled and elderly with a seat.
The MTA is also giving riders another motivation: a $50 fine. Transit officials say the law has been around for several years, but they are hoping the new ad campaign will compel more straphangers to give up their seats.
"I've seen a lot of older people. It's hard for them to sit down," says subway rider John Maldonado.
