Though the Jay Street subway station sees thousands of commuters each day, elected officials say no one should be allowed to even look at it due to deplorable conditions.
Officials say the NYC Transit building on Jay Street, near the station, needs to be put to good use. According to elected officials, the building is empty, but should be leased out to generate funds.
However, MTA officials say approximately 100 employees are currently in the building and that they have plans to perform extensive renovations at the station. MTA officials say they are investing $106 million to rehabilitate the station. They expect to fund the renovation in the capital plan that begins in 2010.
