The MTA is looking to raise its fares again. The organization says it needs to make up $900 million in its budget for next year. The MTA says the financial crunch is due to rising fuel prices and declining tax revenues. In March, the cost of unlimited-ride MetroCards was increased with the price of a single-ride ticket staying at $2. The MTA indicated then that another fare hike would be likely in 2010.Executives will be meeting Wednesday to discuss the possible increase. If the hike is approved, it would be only the second time that fares and tolls were increased in consecutive years.
