The MTA is still struggling to increase subway ridership to pre-pandemic numbers - but a state comptroller's report shows that some of the stations are doing better than others.
The Gun Hill Road subway station has seen a 9% increase in ridership last month compared to 2019. The report, released in November, says the top 10 impacted stations were located in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The data shows a correlation between neighborhoods with lower median households incomes and a significantly higher ridership.
In the last month, while Gun Hill Road station saw an increase in ridership, the Wall Street station in downtown Manhattan only had around 27% of the ridership it had back in 2019.
The numbers suggest that riders in lower-income neighborhoods may not have the luxury of working from home and as a result, still have to take the subway.
However, the latest numbers do show a significant improvement of what ridership was like during the peak of the pandemic in April 2020.
