The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is considering putting in place the ?Adopt a Subway? program to help close its $900 million budget deficit.
According to the plan, outlined by MTA CEO Elliot Sander, corporations and cause-driven organizations would be able to sponsor subway stations throughout the city. In return, he says, the sponsors would receive free advertising space in unusual places, such as on turnstiles.
Straphangers at the Bay Ridge subway station say they will support any proposal that would help improve the conditions of the New York City subway system.
?They're in dire need of repairs, and if companies sponsor us, it could be great,? says one commuter.
