Brooklyn motorists found it a little more expensive to cross the city's bridges and tunnels Sunday.
The MTA toll hike went into effect across the city Sunday morning, increasing the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel cash toll from $4.50 to $5. Other crossings, such as the Queens Midtown Tunnel and Whitestone Bridge, have the same increases. The most expensive crossing in New York City is the Verrazano Bridge, which saw tolls increase from $9 to $10.
According to MTA officials, there could be another toll hike in as little as two years. They say that current revenues are not enough to maintain service on the crossings. The current toll hike will bring in an additional $51 million a year for the MTA.
E-ZPass customers catch a break from the toll hike, paying just $4.15 on $5 tolls.
