A worker fell 25 feet from the upper level of the Verrazano Bridge onto a support beam Monday, suffering serious injuries before he was rushed to a hospital, MTA officials say.

The fall prompted a joint special operations rescue from the NYPD and FDNY. Rescuers say the man was unreachable from the upper roadway, so they had to climb up from the lower level.

The worker was part of a Tutor Perini Construction Co. crew performing a deck replacement project on the upper-level roadway, according to the MTA. He is in stable condition at Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park.

Authorities did not immediately give details about what led to the fall, but Monday afternoon saw strong winds that prompted a wind advisory in the region from the National Weather Service.

The bridge has since reopened but authorities say there may be residual delays related to the rescue mission.
