Melrose residents say at least a dozen cars were broken into early Saturday morning near the same area.
Multiple cars parked near the corner of East 155th Street and Elton Avenue had their windows shattered open and contents robbed.
Residents say they believe the cars were burglarized before 6 a.m. They say money, IDs, AirPods and other belongings were stolen.
Resident Brian Wilson told News 12 he allegedly saw the thief breaking into his car. He says he confronted the suspect, but he fled before police arrived.
Wilson says he filed a police report about the incident.
News 12 reached out to the NYPD for more information on the break-ins.
