A woman is facing charges after climbing the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July.
Police say Therese Okoumou was protesting the U.S. zero tolerance immigration policy and calling for an end to the immigration enforcement agency ICE.
She was in a standoff with police for nearly four hours.
Officials say the act forced an evacuation of Liberty Island.
Early reports claimed the activist was part of a larger group who hung a banner on the statue's pedestal and who were also arrested.
The group says she was not with them.
Okoumou faces trespassing and other charges.
