A Brooklyn school gave disadvantaged Canarsie families a helping hand this holiday season with donated gifts and groceries.
Anonymous donors provided toys, books and groceries to a collection site at P.S. 115, where 40 needy families were invited to take what they needed from the selection.
The donations were organized by Virginia’s House of Hope, a charity that works to improve the quality of life for children in New York City.
“We selected families based on variety of different things - children who are in shelters, parents who are single moms and parents who’ve come to us and said that they are in need,” said Cynthia Ro, a representative of the charity.
