A shocking video showing a cat being dragged and hit has many neighbors furious in Fort Greene.
News 12 obtained the exclusive footage.
Animal rescue volunteer Caroline says the video has haunted her ever since she first saw it.
“It was sickening to see. I mean, I see abuse a lot because that’s what I’m involved in, but it never gets easy to look at,” she said.
The surveillance video shows a couple walking down Flatbush Avenue with a cat on a leash. At one point, a woman appears to drag the cat, dangle it and then kick and hit it.
The incident happened in July. Caroline says she tracked down the video and reported it to police immediately. She tells News 12 she’s reported the couple for allegedly abusing other pets in the same neighborhood before.
She even rescued a dog from them but says she knew the case wouldn’t move forward without video evidence.
Caroline reached out to News 12 after a detective initially described the incident as “mishandling,” not abuse. However, the NYPD tells News 12 its Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad is still investigating.
“I was shocked and disheartened. She’s clearly hitting, kicking, and dragging the cat… if this isn’t abuse, then what is?” Caroline said.
The volunteer says the couple has had seven animals in the past yea
“We need to have better guidelines and hold animal abusers accountable,” she added.
