A plan to improve road safety along Bronxdale Avenue has hit a few speed bumps.
The Department of Transportation’s Bronxdale safety improvement plan began this summer, but street lines remained unfinished, as do traffic lanes, parking lanes and bike lanes, which some say have made the community less safe.
"The commissioner sent me an email saying they did notify Community Board 11 that on July 7 they would proceed with this road diet,” said Friends of Pelham Parkway founder Roxanne Delgado. “When I confronted Community Board 11 with that same email, they said they missed the email."
News 12 reached out to Community Board 11 who said they were made aware of Department of Transportation's plan in March but were told it was a "draft."
"Community Board 11 members and members of the public were caught by surprise in July when the work started,” the board said in a statement. “A letter has been sent to the Department of Transportation, asking them to halt the work."
Neighbors told News 12 they are not completely against the road diet plan. They are asking for a public hearing to be held so that their concerns and input can be heard.
The Department of Transportation said they began discussing these safety improvements more than four years ago and the project aims to increase safety for all road users.
