New Amazon fulfillment center expected to open at shuttered Ocean Township Sears building

A new Amazon fulfillment center is coming to the Jersey Shore with the online retailer making use of a shuttered Monmouth County department store.
The site in Ocean Township was once a Sears, a main anchor store of the old Seaview Square Mallin the 80s and 90s.
Since that time, the mall monitor has rebranded itself to the Seaview Square Shopping Center.
Sears, the last original store from decades ago, closed in 2018.
Earlier this week, the Ocean Township Planning Board approved the former Sears to convert to an Amazon Fulfillment Center.
Residents will be able to pick up their purchases in person on the site.
The store will provide 93,000-square feet of space, and the move to Amazon is expected to bring with it hundreds of new jobs to the area.
A new warehouse is also planned just up the road in Tinton Falls.
Residents will not have to wait long as the scheduled opening date is for this October.
Meantime, the At Home store on the lower level will remain in place.
