The NYPD is installing new security cameras in City Island to help combat crime, a move residents say is long overdue. State Sen. Jeff Klein (D-Bronx) announced Thursday that 15 video surveillance cameras have been brought in to curb vandalism. Each high-definition camera costs around $1,000 and has been strategically placed in line with 45th Precinct recommendations. Residents say they hope the cameras will help discourage drunken driving, graffiti and drug use in the area.
