Thousands of Brooklyn and New York sex offenders are scheduled to be removed from the state registry Saturday, but a new deal among state leaders may change that.

According to a New York Post report, state leaders have come up with a last-minute deal that would prevent sex offenders from being removed from the sex offender list. The deal would lengthen the amount of time criminals must remain on the registry depending on their sex offender level. Lawmakers have agreed to impose lifetime registration for level three and level two offenders. However, level two offenders would be able to petition a judge to be removed from the list after 30 years.

Temporary changes to Megan?s Law could be made if lawmakers can?t complete the new measure by the end of the week.
