Stores across the Garden State are gearing up for big crowds of back-to-school shoppers as the state sales tax holiday goes into effect today.
The tax holiday runs through Sept. 5. It waives the 6% state sales tax on a wide variety of back-to-school items.
That includes everything from arts and crafts supplies, sports equipment and computers under $3,000
"We have some laptops as a part of that sale organizers for teachers, that's going to be part of the sale. As a convenience at our stores, we have these QR codes posted. You can just scan the QR code, and it will actually list all the approved items for the tax free holiday,” says Joshua Strudl, the general store manager of Walmart in Secaucus.
New Jersey estimates the tax holiday will save the average family up to $50 on school supplies.
