New Jersey’s highest-ranking female fire officer was just promoted in Jersey City.
Deputy Chief Constance Zappella was promoted at City Hall Tuesday morning. She took the oath alongside her family.
Zappella worked her way up the department for the last 20 years. She was one of the first women in the department.
“You have to be able to make decisions quickly in really bad situations sometimes. It’s not for every female. But again, it’s not for every man,” Zappella says.
Zappella was one of four deputy chiefs that Mayor Steven Fulop promoted on Tuesday.
