One parent was able to get a new playground at her child?s school by simply taking up an offer she heard on the radio.

Carolina O?Hara, parent of a child at P.S. 261, said she heard Schools Chancellor Joel Klein on the radio four years ago offering to fix school problems.

?I was thinking to myself that will be a miracle and I actually did send him an e-mail and within five days, I had a response from the deputy chancellor. And she gave me a team to work with and four years later, here we are,? O?Hara said.

Children, parents and teachers came out over the weekend to test out the brand new playground, equipped with monkey bars, slides and all sorts of bells and whistles.

Parents say the accomplishment is a testament to how initiative and confidence can get things done.

The playground was dedicated to former school aide Inaam Katra, who died of cancer last year. She worked at P.S. 261 for more than 20 years.
