K Slope Market has reopened in the same space as the recently closed Ninth Street Market in Park Slope.
News 12 previously reported on concerns residents had about the closure less than three months ago. They said it was one of the only options in the area.
"We're thrilled there's a supermarket here," said Marty Freeman, who was a regular shopper at the old store. "When Steve's left, we were very concerned where we were going to shop."
While there are other places to buy things in the area, "there's so many small little grocery stores that don't really carry much so to have a big store locally is nice," said Abby Login, another shopper who lives nearby.
In September, sources told News 12 that Steve's was closing because the owner was having financial issues with the landlord.
Despite that, management at K Slope says it is confident in its business model.
"We do have a vision to be a neighborhood grocer that listens to the neighborhood, which I think is a little bit different than what the Steve's team was about," said Rita Razalan, K Slope's head of marketing. "We are slowly going to be adding new merchandise as we get feedback from the community about what's working and what's not."
Despite the changes, customers confirmed that prices seemed about the same as what they would have expected at Steve's.
"Our hope is that we will have a much higher throughput of customers coming through, that will help us kind of, in the volume, meet some of the gaps where margin isn't," said Razalan.
Management says they are also trying to keep some of the things that made Steve's popular, including the wide aisles and variety, while also expanding the produce aisles to be twice as big, and adding what they say is the only fresh seafood market in the neighborhood.
"I'm very impressed. there's a lot here," said Freeman.
"It's a relief that it's here, and it looks - it looks pretty good," agreed Kevin Jordan, another former Steve's customer as he looked around.
Of the 30 or so employees who were at Steve's when it closed, management says a good chunk of them are back at K Slope, and that some even have promotions.
"I have a new opportunitdad," said a produce manager Michael Bedals, through a wide smile. "The customers are very happy for us , they say 'Hi Michael, you're back!'"
K Slope is technically still in its soft opening, with plans for the grand opening in early 2026.
