The New York City Transportation Union, Local 100, has endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders as the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Wednesday.
TWU officials made the announcement Wednesday morning, greeting Sanders with cheers and applause, calling him "the jolt America needs for blue collar workers."
The union is made up of more than 40,000 workers who help keep the millions of New Yorkers who rely on mass transit moving every single day.
Sanders spoke about fighting for equal pay for men and women and also talked about re-building the country's crumbling infrastructure.
He says if elected, he intends to pass a $1 trillion bill to re-build much of the country's infrastructure.
If passed, Sanders says the bill will create 13 million jobs across the country.
Sanders also joined Verizon Wireless union workers who picketed in New York Wednesday amid an East Coast strike among landline and cable workers.
