New York City's Department of Education is under investigation for complaints of antisemitism and Islamophobia in the public school system.
Nine schools or districts across the country are under investigation, including Columbia University. The DOE released a statement saying in part, "Hate or bias of any kind has no place in our public schools. We are taking concrete steps to ensure our schools continue to be safe, welcoming, and respectful places."
According to the NYPD, hate crimes in the city are up more than 88% in the last month.
