News 12 is on "pump patrol" to help you save money just in time for Memorial Day weekend travels.
AAA predicts that more people will be hitting the road this holiday weekend. AAA reports that traveling on the road is expected to go up by 50% compared to 2020, with nearly 12 million Americans are predicted to go on a road trip. This could mean that the demand for gas might increase ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
At the Mobil station on Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie, motorists are paying $3.09 per gallon for regular. Just across the street at Shell, its $3.21 -- a 12-cent increase per gallon.
According to gasbuddy.com, the cheapest gas in Brooklyn is at the 76 gas station on Atlantic Avenue where it will cost you $2.88 a gallon to fill up your tank.
AAA says the city's average price is currently $3.19.
Over in the Bronx, the cheapest gas will cost you $2.79 per gallon, 9 cents cheaper than Brooklyn's lowest rate, at the Global Gas station on Baychester Avenue near Tillotson Avenue.
AAA also anticipates longer delays on the road before the holiday weekend, which means double the travel.
AAA says I-95 West Highway US-130 to the George Washington Bridge will be packed between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday with cars getting a head start on the holiday weekend.
