News 12 spoke with the family of Hector Reinoso-Perez, who police say was stabbed to death Friday night inside an IHOP in Canarsie.
Reinoso-Perez's granddaughter, Daniela, says he was the man her family could always count on.
“He never wanted problems with anyone. He was always loving. He was like the head of the family, basically," said Daniela.
Police have arrested Wilber Salazar Rios in connection to the incident. Sources say he is a former employee of the restaurant located on Flatlands Avenue.
Daniela tells News 12 he was a grandfather, father, coworker and husband to his wife of 50 years.
“My family, they want justice because what that man did was not right. It was very cruel," said Daniela.
The 44-year-old is accused of stabbing 67-year-old Hector Reinoso-Perez, a current employee, in the torso.
Rios also slashed a 41-year-old man in the hand. Sources say the man slashed was also an employee.
Sources say Reinoso-Perez went to the back of the restaurant and was followed by Rios, when they got into a dispute and then Rios allegedly stabbed him.
They say another employee went to check on Reinoso-Perez and Rios slashed that employee in the hand before running away.
Daniela says her family is in mourning.
“My whole family's been suffering all his kids saying how they don't feel anything anymore. And my cousin, she hasn't been eating for days. It's just been hard on my whole family. Everybody loved him. We all loved my grandpa. And now, now that he's gone, it just feels like something is missing," said Daniela.
Rios is facing charges of murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
