New Jersey’s fire departments will be getting millions of dollars in federal funding.
The departments will be getting $10 million as part of the American Rescue Plan Firefighter Grand Program.
The funding will help to buy equipment for firefighters, EMTs and other first responders, while in theory lowering property taxes for New Jersey residents.
"Every firefighter across this state, whether volunteer or from any paid department, they put others before themselves time and time again,” said Paterson Fire Capt. Kyle Hughes.
There have been 44 firefighter deaths nationwide this year, including Harrison firefighter Vincent Doffont who died suddenly after a training exercise in March.
