New Jersey will ban plastic bags and other single-use plastic items as of May 4.
The ban will prohibit stores and restaurants from providing them in an effort to better protect the environment.
Paper bags will also be banned at some large grocery stores, but non-grocery and retail stores will still be able to provide paper.
The ban on plastic will prompt shoppers to provide their own reusable bags.
