A nurse quarantined in New Jersey after returning from West Africa is being released. 

The state's Health Department says Kaci Hickox has been symptom-free for 24 hours, and will be taken on a private carrier to Maine. 

Hickox had called the mandatory quarantine after arriving at the airport in Newark "inhumane." She said in part, "I think that this is an extreme that is really unacceptable, and I feel like my basic human rights have been violated." 

Hickox is the first traveler to be quarantined under new protocol established by governors in both New Jersey and New York.
