A Brooklyn nonprofit is spreading holiday joy and stamping out hunger by delivering meals to people in need.
With assembly line-like precision, volunteers with God's Love We Deliver packaged close to 4,000 holiday meals in Williamsburg. About 1,000 volunteers worked to package and deliver the meals to disabled, sick or low-income families.
"I feel enormous pride that we're able to do this for so many people in need and I just feel good," said Karen Pearl, who worked at the Williamsburg facility.
Alissa Wassung was among those who delivered the meals. With a knock on a door and a friendly greeting, she made her way into Diane Lovitt's home in East New York.
A tearful Lovitt thanked Wassung.
"It's amazing to be welcomed into people's homes and hearts on this day," said Wassung.
In addition to food, each package included a personal touch, decorated with messages and holiday greetings from students.
