New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan has been named a cardinal by the Vatican.
Pope Benedict XVI announced today that he will elevate Dolan, along with 21 other prelates, in the Roman Catholic Church during a formal ceremony on Feb. 18.
Parishioners leaving Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church this morning say they are thrilled by the news. Many Bronx residents also say that they think it's a great opportunity for New York to have better representation in Rome.
In a statement, Dolan said, "I am honored, humbled and grateful, but let's be frank: This is not about Timothy Dolan. This is an honor from the Holy Father to the Archdiocese of New York, and to all our cherished friends and neighbors who call this great community home."
