New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has confirmed that it detected the presence of Legionella bacteria in some inpatient units, following a Department of Health inspection.
The hospital released a statement saying that the water supply of most large buildings contain small amounts of legionella, but that the majority of people exposed will not get sick.
The bacteria can lead to Legionnaires’ disease, which is usually treatable with antibiotics.
The hospital says it is still being safe by implementing water restrictions and taking steps to disinfect its water sources.
