(AP) - New York's Legislature is meeting inextraordinary session to confront a $3.2 billion deficit, but a planned vote on same-sex marriage may not take place at all. Gov. David Paterson has a plan to cut spending for hospitals andwhat he calls a 3 percent cut in school aid for the remainder ofthe year as well as other measures to meet the shortfall and payDecember's bills. The Senate and Assembly have some counterproposals to minimizeor eliminate cuts. Also happening in Albany, a planned vote on same-sex marriage appears it won?t happen during the special session. Speaking after the Democratic majority met behind closed doors,Sen. Neil Breslin of Albany County says flatly there won't be avote on the bill. Sen. David Valesky of central New York also saysit appears the bill won't get to a long-awaited vote during aspecial session Tuesday. The bill's sponsor, Sen. Thomas Duane of Manhattan, refused tocomment even on whether he wants the bill to get to the floor, where approval is uncertain. Sen. Martin Malave Dilan of Brooklyn saysthe measure could still come up later in the day, but it wasn'tscheduled for the initial meeting of the Senate.
