NYC comptroller announces $2.25 million settlement in DOC inmate death case

Lander's office says the family of Kevin Bryan was awarded $2.25 million in the case.

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander announced a multimillion-dollar settlement made with the family of a man who died in custody of the Department of Correction in 2022. 
Lander's office says the family of Kevin Bryan was awarded $2.25 million in the case. 
According to the DOC, Bryan died in September of 2022 while incarcerated at Rikers Island. Bryan's death took place six days after he was arrested for trespassing, and he was the 14th person to die in DOC custody last year.
