The city is continuing with its vaccination efforts as distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine continues to be on pause.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends anyone who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and is experiencing new symptoms such as headaches, tiny red spots on their skin, backache, severe abdominal pain or any new bruising to seek medical attention immediately.
A decision to lift the suspension on the distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can come as soon as Friday when the CDC panel is expected to meet again.
New York City is still working to get more New Yorkers vaccinated with some vaccination sites offering the vaccine to anyone 50 years and older without having to make an appointment. Previously, walk-ins were only being given to those 75 and over.
Residents like Kirsaan Thomas say the change is a necessary one.
“It’s a great move because some people really don’t have access to the Internet,” Thomas says. “Now that everyone is eligible, it’s really amazing.”
The Co-op City Dreiser Community Center, Lehman College, Brooklyn Army Terminal, Coney Island YMCA and Bathgate Post Center are all accepting walk-ins for New Yorkers 50 years of age and older plus whoever brings them to the appointment.
