Temperatures in New York City take a steep decline during November. Our mean high temperature, or all the high temperatures added together, then divided by the number of days, is just 45 degrees.
This is a significant difference from October’s mean high temperature of 65 degrees.
Throughout the month, average high temperatures reach from 59 degrees on Nov. 1 to 49 degrees on Nov. 30.
However, with high temperatures on Friday, Nov. 1 reaching the 70s and 80s, the month has started unseasonably warm!
The average precipitation for November is 3.58 inches. This is quite different from October’s average which is 4.38 inches. But as seen after a record dry October, just because we typically see something happening in our area’s climatology, doesn’t mean we will see it happen this month.
Sunrises, sunsets, and amount of daylight also change drastically in the 11th month. Part of this is due to the time change that will happen the first weekend of the month, which bumps sunrise and sunset times back an hour. The other part is due to the amount of daylight hours getting shorter as we approach the Winter Solstice in December, which is the day with the shortest amount of daylight.
Nov. 1's sunrise time for Central Park was 7:26 a.m. By Nov. 30, the sun will rise at 7 a.m. The beginning of the month saw sunset at 5:51 p.m. While by the end we will say goodnight to the sun at 4:29 p.m.
