An 11-year-old boy died in what appears to be a subway surfing incident at the Fourth Avenue - Ninth Street subway station in Park Slope. The latest death comes as the city continues to ramp up its campaign against the deadly trend.
According to witnesses, the young boy fell from the top of a moving subway car around 10:15 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, police say the young boy was pronounced dead. The Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.
This incident marks the sixth reported death linked to subway surfing since 2023. City officials have been actively working to combat this dangerous trend.
Earlier this month, the NYPD's Transit Bureau recently released a video demonstrating its use of drone technology to monitor and apprehend subway surfers. This initiative is part of the city's "Subway Surfing Kills – Ride Inside, Stay Alive" campaign.
The MTA is also taking action. The agency has been collaborating with social media companies to remove content related to subway surfing. According to MTA officials, nearly 11,000 posts have been flagged and deleted to date.
The city continues to urge the public to report any subway surfing activities and to follow safety guidelines while using the transit system.
