New York City schools will start vaccinating students against swine flu Oct. 28.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a news conference Tuesday urging parents to sign consent forms allowing their children to receive the free vaccinations. The plan, which is the largest free H1N1 vaccine effort in the country, aims to vaccinate more than 1 million students.

In case students lose the permission slips, the Health Department has posted the forms online in 10 different languages.

The Health Department launched a pilot seasonal flu vaccination program in schools a few weeks ago, but only 30 percent of children who received the consent forms got them signed and came in for shots.
