NYCHA says residents of the Hylan Houses will be the next to vote on the future of their development.
The 64-year-old building is home to over 400 residents.
NYCHA says the building has an estimated 20-year capital need of $90 million.
Residents will be able to vote on one of three options:
1. Public Housing Preservation Trust
2. Permanent Affordability Commitment Together Program
3. Remain Section 9 Housing
The Public Housing Preservation Trust will unlock billions of dollars in federal funding for renovations all while maintaining permanently affordable rent.
Permanent Affordability Commitment Together Program, otherwise known as PACT, will also unlock funds from a third-party partner to do repairs for about 62,000 apartments.
Bushwick residents say this is one step closer to a better future for all residents.
“Giving the residents that actually live there an option instead of a bunch of people who are probably in some office building that have never lived there or know anything about it, that’s really good," said Joy Miller, of Bushwick.
Voting will take place between Nov, 13 and Dec. 12.
A minimum of 20% of all Heads of Household will be required for a vote to be considered valid and binding.
